Anti-aging
Skin aging is a natural part of the human aging mosaic that follows different trajectories that become evident in different organs, tissues and cells over time. While the signs of aging of the internal organs remain hidden, the first obvious traces of time and signs of aging can be easily seen on the skin.
Skin aging is a complex biological process affected by a combination of endogenous or intrinsic (genetics, cellular metabolisms, hormones and metabolic processes) and exogenous (chronic sun and light exposure, pollution, ionizing radiation, chemicals, toxins). Exogenous and endogenous factors play a role together in skin aging. Aging, sunspots and structural damage are particularly striking in skin areas that are chronically exposed to the sun. The aging process due to sun damage is called photoaging. Spontaneously aging skin appears thin, atrophic, wrinkled and dry, while photo-aged skin typically shows a thickened epidermis, mottled discoloration, deep wrinkles, laxity and dullness.
Loss of skin elasticity over the years leads to sagging of the skin. Starting from the thirties, sagging begins and then accelerates.
Wound healing can also be delayed by skin aging. This is associated with the decline of collagen.
The dermis consists of three main components; these are collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycans.
These components have been the subject of most aesthetic studies against skin aging.
Whole facial aging; with the collagen reduction and environmental factors, gravity, muscle movements, loss of volume in the bones, reduction and redistribution of superficial and deep fat, loss of bone-skeletal support and sagging of the face cause shape and contour changes. Regardless of the fact that aging is not a pathological condition but a biologically inevitable process, degenerative disorders are associated with a variety of skin and body pathologies, including benign and malignant neoplasms.
Thanks to preventive aesthetic dermatology, a healthy aging process can be created. It can treat or prevent certain skin disorders, especially skin cancer. Aging processes can be slowed down and deficiencies can be eliminated.
Aesthetic dermatology aims to have a healthy, smooth, spotless, translucent and flexible skin. In clinical practice, “looking better” does not mean “looking younger”. For this reason, it is very important to understand the wishes of the patients and to guide them to the treatment method that will give the most satisfactory results by knowing all the available treatment techniques. The treatment strategy should be determined by considering the patient’s age, previous procedures or surgeries, general health status, genetic history and skin type.
