What is Crystal Filler (Calcium Hydroxyapatite)?
As we age, the skin, muscles, fat and bones on our face begin to thin and sag. As a result, wrinkles, loosening and volume loss occur on the face. Crystal filler can make this change positive.
Calcium Hydroxyapatite , also known as “mineral graft”, “ porcelain filler ” and “ crystal filler ”, is a dermal filler. These fillings , which we also call Crystal fillings, consist of CaHA (calcium hydroxyapatite) microparticles and water-based gel obtained under laboratory conditions.
Its structural components are calcium and phosphate ions. These substances are naturally found in human tissue. Therefore, it is 100% compatible with the body and no tests are required before treatment.
This filler is approved by Health Canada and the FDA under the brand name Radiesse® for the treatment of wrinkles and volume enhancement and is used in 57 countries around the world. There are also different brands of crystal fillings.
In Which Situations Is Calcium Crystal Filling Used?
Calcium crystal filler (calcium hydroxyapatite) is used for both women and men in the treatment of skin rejuvenation and reducing or eliminating age-related volume loss .
It also targets the lower half of the face and hands. The areas where this filler is used are:
- Sagging on the cheeks
- Spaces under the cheekbones
- Marionette lines and laugh lines
- Nasolabial folds (lines from the corners of the nose to the mouth)
- chin wrinkles
- jowl contours
- Wrinkles on the back of the hands
- Nose blows (for non-surgical rhinoplasty)
Why is Crystal Filling (Radiesse®) Preferred?
Calcium hydroxylapatite is a bulking agent. In other words, instead of just correcting wrinkles, it gives volume and form to the lower layers of your skin. It is a non-invasive, non-surgical, natural-looking face lift procedure. Being a filler material compatible with the body increases its reliability.
Calcium hydroxylapatite is a very effective and reliable filler in strengthening facial soft tissue. Triggering collagen production and providing high elasticity and viscosity are the important features that distinguish calcium filler from others.
It is effective for much longer than some dermal fillers. Although the duration of effect of calcium crystal filler varies from person to person, it can generally last 12 to 18 months.
It is not a permanent solution for wrinkles , sagging skin or folds in the skin. It must be repeated.
How Does Crystal Filling (Mineral) Work?
Once the calcium filler is injected into the skin, it creates an immediate visible change . However, the real effect is felt better after weeks. Because after the filler is injected, it also activates your body’s natural collagen production. This makes your skin look younger and more radiant.
Made with calcium and water-based gel, Calcium Hydroxyapatite breaks down into calcium and phosphate ions once it is safely injected. It creates a ” lift ” effect on your skin. Since these minerals are familiar to our body, they are naturally lost through metabolism.
Filling application is a treatment that does not require anesthesia and has a very low pain sensation. The treatment duration is 30-40 minutes and its effect is noticeable immediately and increases over time.
Calcium crystal filler is not used around the eyes and lips . Your doctor plans a treatment procedure for areas that require filling based on the dermal fillers suitable for that area.
Crystal Filling (Radiesse®) Side Effects
Patients receiving filler treatment sometimes experience swelling, redness or bruising only at the injection site. This normally goes away on its own within a week. However, all normal activity can be resumed.
It is important to avoid blood thinners before and after the treatment session to avoid bruising. UV rays and excessive exercise should also be avoided until complete recovery.
When deciding to have a crystal filling, you should choose a reliable and experienced doctor and inform your doctor about your medical history during the preliminary meeting.
Filling aesthetic treatment is not applied to minors, pregnant and breastfeeding people.
